James Watt: Power and Perfectionism
James Watt was not the first person to make the connection between steam and motion. He wasn't even the first person to build a working steam engine. In Watt's hands, however, and in his mind, the steam engine became an effective and reliable tool. He did not "perfect" it--many future improvements were made after his work was done--but he brought it into a form that could no longer be ignored because it was now a useful tool rather than a curiosity.
