Art Institute of Chicago:
Mrs. James Ward Thorne Miniature Rooms Collection

Picture
The Thorne Miniature Rooms collection at the Art Institute of Chicago profiles American furnishings and interiors from the 17th century to the 1930s on a scale of one inch to one foot.  These models were designed by Mrs. Narcissa Ward Thorne of Chicago (heir to the Montgomery Ward department store fortune) and constructed by craftsmen during the Great Depression.

This may be an item of interest and helpful to students researching interiors as part of their projects. Regrettably, the charm of the miniatures may be lost in the close-up photographs as part of the awe is someone working so meticulously at such a scale.

Design Decisions
Even a simple chair in a single color from a single designer can come in countless styles, creating a variety of moods and atmospheres for a room.
